Life Beneath

I spent the afternoon blowing, raking, bagging leaves. It needed to be done so the grass beneath all the colorful debris isn’t permanently damaged. Even the wind mocked my futile efforts of care-taking  as falling leaves replaced ones now collected and placed by the curb. There were times when I wondered if all my work was in vain for the still half full tree will once again cover the ground with the foliage that clings to its limbs.

There are times in our lives when we must do the tedious work of cleaning up messes with little to show for it. Seasons when winds of change, discord, difficultly blow through leaving us piles of what was but is no more. We may be tempted to wait until the season is over, our lives have stopped swaying, before attempting to put things back in order but if we wait too long we may damage the life that struggles to grows beneath the clutter.
