Come Again

image

The tops of the trees are bare with only a few leaves on lower limbs remaining. Last week there were thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind that pried even the heartiest of leaves from their summer homes. As I walked one of our dogs on this overcast, cold day I noticed the trees looked weary, defeated… and it’s only the beginning of December.

Like the trees, each of us have experienced, will experience, seasons that strip away outward beauty, dislodge us from comfortable places and leave us with a sense of loss. We look for light, warmth and hope with none to be found. We wonder how long this difficult season will last unsure if we want the answer.

In times of confusion and doubt what we can be sure of is that seasons do not last forever. Neither the bad nor the good is permanent. With this wisdom we brace ourselves against the wind, find shelter from the cold and hold in our hearts this truth; the sun, warmth, light will come again.

blessings,
