Sticks and Stones

Our-prime-purpose-in-this-life-is-to-help-others.-And-if-you-cant-help-them-at-least-dont-hurt-them-thought-for-the-day.

I heard someone say today; “there’s just too much political correctness! You can’t say anything to any one! Hasn’t anyone heard the saying; ‘sticks and stones may hurt my bones but words will never hurt me?!?!’ People just need to get over it!”

Aside from noting his statements were filled with generalities and hyperbole I also thought of times I would rather have dealt with broken bones instead of a heart which had been shattered because of someone’s spiteful, insulting, hurtful words. I’ve had my share of fractured bones, sprained ligaments, various wounds and they healed quickly compared to the damage caused by words spoken in anger, revenge, spite, meanness or carelessness.

“The wicked pursues selfishness, against all sound judgment starts a fight. Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions. The words of the mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a rushing stream. The lips of fools bring them strife, and their mouths invite a beating. The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts. Before a downfall the heart is proud, but humility comes first then peace. To answer before listening that is folly and shame. The human spirit can endure in sickness, but a crushed spirit who can bear? The tongue has the power of life and death.” -widsom proverb
