Obstacles to Good

image

Yesterday, on the way out of Nashville TN in five o’clock traffic, I watched a pickup truck dart in and out of lines, riding people’s bumpers, trying to get around the many vehicles in front of him. I thought to myself; “Dude, where do you think you’re going? There’s just more cars in front of the ones you’re intent on passing.”

As he continued to try and weave his way through the metal maze I reflected upon the ways each of us try to get around the many obstacles we face in our daily lives. Too often we think; “If I could just get past this… lose weight, be more disciplined, conquer a certain habit, add or subtract something in my life, all would be good.” Nothing wrong with wanting to live more wisely, find balance, be in harmony with the world but rarely, if ever, will one change make everything right.

Wisdom teaches us there’s always another mountain to climb, river to cross, obstacle to overcome, undiscovered path to walk toward self discovery. Living well isn’t living perfectly but seeing our imperfections, flaws, habits and hangups as refining and necessary to help us get where we need to go.

  1. Great post! Yeah, I think we all try to zoom through life in this manner. I guess we all need to take a deep breath in, relax and go one step at a time; one thing at a time.
