Hope Defined

On my way to lunch today I stopped by a local rehabilitation clinic named; “The Hope Center“. I wanted to introduce myself to some of the staff and speak with them about supporting and helping families. As I waited for the program director to finish a meeting I listened to two patients sing the well-known song by Bill Withers, Lean on Me;

“Sometimes in our lives
We all have pain
we all have sorrow
But if we are wise
We know that there’s always tomorrow
Lean on me
when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
somebody to lean on”

They sang softly and to each other. There was a lot of hustle and bustle in the building but the two patients kept singing even as they left the building and walked outside.

As I drove away I reflected upon connection, relationship, the assurance that we do not walk the often difficult path of life alone is the hope we all must have to survive.

blessings,
