In worship today the speaker said; “Live life open handed. Open hands mean you can give and receive. When you live with your hands closed, you can do neither.”
Too often we think of being tight fisted as a miserly, cheap, selfish way of living. This is true but it also means not being able to receive blessings as well. When we’re focused on keeping “what’s ours”, holding on to what we’ve earned or deserve, making sure no one takes what we treasure, we can’t accept the beauty that is grace.
Grace is undeserved, freely given, that which we cannot buy or gain. Grace lavishes upon us true love, lasting peace, the deepest stillness not because we’re worthy but because it’s how grace works. We do not grab ahold of grace, it grasps our open hands and doesn’t let us go.
