Journey of Forgiveness
I had a difficult conversation with an old friend last week who’s struggling to forgive someone who hurt them very deeply. As we talked the pain in his voice was obvious. He asked me; “how do I even begin to forgive?”
I took a breath and recounted to him a time in my life when a friend betrayed my trust. I then explained that forgiveness wasn’t a one time act but a process, a path I had to walk, am still walking. “You take a step,’ I said, ‘and when you’re ready you take another. Some will be large, others small, but you navigate the path the best you can.”
Forgiving isn’t easy, healing from deep hurts takes a long time. Letting go of the anger and heartache at times may seem impossible. Forgiveness isn’t a destination, it’s a journey.
