I spoke with two people today about life and the anxiety it engenders. To live is to encounter stress, fear, frustration. Oftentimes, in a world so loud, uncontrollable and frightening, our minds race unceasingly. Each day we expect, anticipate the next crisis which will threaten who and what we treasure. Being anxious can be a darkness that haunts our every waking moment and also our dreams. To find quiet in our minds and spirits can be most difficult.
Wisdom tells us the key to silence in the soul and emotions begins with the breath. We breathe in acceptance and breathe out the craving for control. We inhale grace, compassion and exhale judgement, attachment to earthly things.
Our breath takes us deeper, past the worry, the desperate clinging and to a place that cannot be threatened. Like the sea shell far beneath the surface where waves break and batter, we are still, at peace.
