Not Ours

My Siberian Husky, Trooper, doesn’t like to be held, grabbed or bear hugged. He likes to be free. He doesn’t mind being loved on, in fact he enjoys it, but only on his terms. When he’s ready, he’ll come up to you, lower his head, stand by your leg, and you can pet him for as long as he’s in the mood. However, when he’s over it, he walks or runs away whether you’re finished or not. image

Wisdom teaches us that we are to approach life in a similar way. We are to take what comes and enjoy it but never assume how long it will stay or that we possess the thing which brings us joy. In time, short or long, all worldly things, including people, leave us. Seasons come and go, all passes away, nothing is permanent. When it is gone we may be sad but also content if we’ve accepted it was never ours to hold on to in the first place.

blessings,
