a Path not an Obstacle

Earlier this week I had a very busy day and was running late for my first appointment. I don’t know if it’s divine design, humor or happenstance but it seems when I’m in a hurry I get behind a driver who isn’t. She pulled in front of me at a crossroads and kept fiddling with something in the passenger seat beside her, distracted and plodding along. We were caught by every traffic light because of her slow pace and my patience was worn thin. Finally she turned onto a side road and I was able to put “petal to metal.” After I arrived at my destination and was telling my story to someone, I realized the futility of being in a hurry, allowing frustration to get the best of me and losing my center over a thing so trivial. A realization I’ve had many times before. Sigh.

Wisdom is a relentless teacher, life the classroom. Too often we see difficult situations, aggravating people as obstacles to peace when in fact they are the path we must walk.
