Stunned & Startled

I don’t like using public bathrooms because, like life, you never know what’s waiting for you.

This morning, however, there was no other option and as I entered a seemingly empty bathroom I was relieved it was clean and well lit.  I headed for a stall with an open door and as I was about to step in, a guy stepped out! He totally surprised me and before I could stop myself rather loudly said; “You scared me dude!” He apologized and I reciprocated.

Yesterday, I arrived early for an appointment and while waiting was reading a book when a loud; “WHACK!” startled me. I looked around and noticed on the other side of a glass door a horse fly apparently had flown directly into this unseen obstacle. For several moments he didn’t move but slowly he recovered, gathered his bearings and flew away.

Life has a way of surprising us in good and not so good ways. It may even knock us down with something we never saw coming. Our first reaction may be stunned disbelief, shock and dismay. However, sooner or later, we need to clear our vision, calm our minds, settle our spirits and keep moving forward.

blessings,
