I’ve been thinking about sacrifice today and also courage. I’ve been wondering about men and women who carry a gun, stand a post, infiltrate foreign territory, give up their lives for freedoms and rights we take for granted everyday.I never served in the armed forces. I had the opportunity but chose another path. Friends and family members signed up to do what I turned down.

What makes a person brave? What is it inside someone that keeps them sane in chaos? How does a person not flee from a foxhole as the enemy approaches, hold the line when everything inside of them says; “Run!”, put the good of all ahead of his/her dreams, world and life.

Sacrifice seems easy when it’s a video game, giving out of our enormous abundance, letting go of what we have to grasp something we want more.

Sacrifice, in its truest sense, is to put others ahead of us at great personal costs, to know the price is too high but to pay it anyway.

As the Master says: “Greater love has no one than the he/she who lays down their life for another.

Blessings and thank you to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice for each of us.
