I come from what is called “the greatest generation,” and we were taught that in parlous times,you just “got on with it.” It was an attitude that saw me through being homeless for a short period of time, without money, and alone in a big city I had never been to before. I was young, healthy, and determined to find a job and an apartment and start again. Now, 66 years later, I doubt I would fare as
well.
